Q&A: How can driving off road affect brakes?
February 22nd, 2013 at 0:41Query by Jimmy: How can driving off road impact brakes?
My perform truck is 2012 Chevy silverado. It has 24000 miles. I drive alot off road, prob half the time. I have currently had to get front front pads at 10000 miles, now my rear drums pads are shot. I never haul something. I do have two tool boxes in the back.
I drive 150miles a day. Half highway and half on gravel.

It could be the further muck collecting in the brakes thats wearing them out. I would give the brakes a pressure wash to clean them out see if this makes a distinction

You get mud and sand on the brakes that causes them to wear out faster. Unfortunately there are few things you can do except washing them off or buying a good set of ceramic pads. But they will not last as long as they would if you were only on the streets. My truck went though brakes regularly when I was playing in the sand.
